The
International Film Festival Summit (IFFS) is the largest international
organization representing the film festival industry. Through collaborative
efforts the IFFS provides programs that drive innovation, education, and
provide a critical understanding of how film festivals play a crucial role in
independent film and foster growth in the arts and cinema.
The
mission of the IFFS is to promote and strengthen the global film festival
industry through education, networking, dissemination of information, and the
cultivation of high standards for the industry. This year the IFFS
will take place on April 3-4th in Paris, Europe. The 2012 IFFS Europe will bring
together over 100 film festival directors and executives from across Europe,
Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
MOVIES TO LOOK OUT FOR :
THE DESCENDANTS : The Descendants is a unique
tragi-comedy that makes you look at life, family and priorities with new eyes.
Life is messy, and The Descendants is a film that celebrates that. Beautifully
photographed and tenderly scored, The Descendants is a movie that hinges
primarily on its performances, and Payne does an excellent job of making every
actor deliver. Shailene Woodley is terrific as Alex, torn between rage against
her mother, and pain over having to say goodbye.
KUNG FU PANDA 2 : Kung Fu Panda 2 is a worthy successor to the
prequel. Po’s character of an eternally hungry and stupid, yet brave kung fu
fighting panda tickles one’s funny bone. The highlight of the film, however,
are the hilarious dialogues, that are sure to provoke loud laughter at regular
intervals. The voice acting is phenomenal. Jack Black wows yet again as Po. The
animation (by DreamWorks Animation) is superb. The choreography of the kung fu
sequences is also eye-appealing. The 3D only makes the action sequences seem
more exciting.
MIDNIGHT
IN PARIS : Midnight in Paris is a breeze: a bauble, but a jolly one. It glints,
charms and then stops — not quite the three-course meal Allen used to serve us,
but a tastier snack than any of his others lately. There is a pleasure in the
layering of this conceit, although the encouraging literary figures that Gil
meets, obligingly spouting their most celebrated lines, are less the creatures of
Twenties Paris than of Gil’s dreamscape of Twenties Paris.
RANGO : Rango is a sheltered chameleon
living as an ordinary family pet, while facing a major identity crisis. When
Rango accidentally winds up in the gritty, gun-slinging town of Dirt - a
lawless outpost populated by the desert's most wily and whimsical creatures -
the less-than-courageous lizard suddenly finds he stands out. Welcomed as the
last hope the town has been waiting for, new Sheriff Rango is forced to play
his new role to the hilt.
IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY : Set against the backdrop of the
Bosnian War that tore the Balkan region apart in the 1990s, In the Land of
Blood and Honey tells the story of Danijel and Ajla, two people from different
sides of a brutal ethnic conflict. Danijel, a soldier fighting for the Serbs,
and Ajla, a Bosnian held captive in the camp he oversees, knew each other
before the war, and could have found love with each other. But as the armed
conflict takes hold of their lives, their relationship grows darker, their
motives and connection to one another ambiguous, their allegiances uncertain.
